美国本科三大申请系统
考虑到大部分学生和家长对于这三个系统并不熟悉,我先把这三个系统的基本情况做了一个总结,请参考以下表格:
一般情况下,我们在会优先把公共申请系统和加州系统的主文书先完成,即一篇650字文书+4篇350字文书,因为几乎所有的学生都会需要完成这几篇文书内容,先做出来肯定能派上用场,再看看联合申请系统里面的学校有没有自己确定要申的,如果有,再完成那篇主文书。
关于八大项文书材料注意事项和准备时间,请参考以下表格:
表格里面的完成时间是一个常规推荐完成进度安排,每个学生根据自己的情况肯定都会有所调整,关于最后一项内容「学校报告」,可能有部分家长学生未曾了解,可以参考我之前的推文——美国大学怎么考察申请学生的高中质量。

Q1 Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
有些学生有一个对自己来说不可分割的背景、身份、兴趣或才艺,如果你也是这样的人,请分享你的故事。
Q2 The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
我们从挫折中学到的东西也许会对未来的成功至关重要。回忆你经历过的一个挑战、挫折或失败,讲讲这段经历对你有什么影响,你从中又学到了什么。
Q3 Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

Q4 Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
描述一个你已经解决的问题或者你想要解决的问题。这个问题可以是一个对智力和思想的考验、一个研究课题、一个道德难题 -- 不论问题大小,只要它对你来说很重要就行。请解释这个问题对你的意义,也讲述一下你采取了什么步骤(或打算采取什么步骤)来解决这个问题。
Q5 Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
描述一个激发了你的个人成长并且加深了自我认识的成就、事件或领悟。
Q6 Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
描述一个让你废寝忘食的话题、想法或概念。它为什么吸引你?你想要更深入的学习时会找谁(人或事物)?
Q7 Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

Q2 Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
每个人都用有创造力,而创造力能通过很多种方式展现出来:解决问题、创新思维、艺术创作等等。描述一下你是如何展现自己的创造力的。
Q3 What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
你觉得你自己最棒的才能或者技能是什么?你是如何逐渐发展并展现这项才能的?
Q4 Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.
描述你是如何利用一个重要的教育机会的,或你是如何克服了一个教育方面的障碍的。
Q5 Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?

Q1 Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
讲一个你生活中的故事,描述一段展示或者塑造了你的性格的经历。
Q2 Describe a time when you made a meaningful contribution to others in which the greater good was your focus. Discuss the challenges and rewards of making your contribution.
你有没有舍小家为大家的为他人做出过贡献?讲一讲那个时候的经历,也说一说做这个贡献时遇到的困难和它给你带来的收获。
Q3 Has there been a time when you’ve had a long-cherished or accepted belief challenged? How did you respond? How did the challenge affect your beliefs?
你有没有过自己长久以来接受的想法被挑战的经历?你是如何应对的?这个挑战如何影响你的想法?
Q4 What is the hardest part of being a teenager now? What’s the best part? What advice would you give a younger sibling or friend (assuming they would listen to you)?
在当今做一个青少年最难的地方是什么?最棒的地方是什么?假设比你小的兄弟姐妹/朋友会听你的,你会给TA们什么样的建议?
Q5 Submit an essay on a topic of your choice.
在之前留学咨询工作中,总会有学生和家长问「什么样的文书是好文书」,「某某学校喜欢什么样的学生」之类的问题,说实话这些问题都很难有标准答案,总结建议:
1. 以自己为主,先不要考虑学校的问题,
2. 好文书的三个层次:语言有美感、看得出段落层次的铺陈设计;有故事情节,有情感支撑;有深刻的思想内涵引起读者的思考和启示。
3. 早点开始准备,文书比你想象中更费时间。
