HELLO!!
Never Let Me Go, East of Eden, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Great Expectations, Beloved, Pride and Prejudice.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
"In the novel Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro highlights the identity development in the main characters as they progress through their lives. Focusing on the three distinct characters, Ishiguro depicts their struggles of finding their personal identities by demonstrating the different phases of their lives at Hailsham, the Cottages and when they are out for donations. The desire of finding the purposes of life and the sense of belonging is the paramount conflict the characters face. Clones suffer from not being able to experience their unitary identity as individuals. Ishiguro delivers the message to us that it is deeply important for everyone to find their position in the world and live out a meaningful life."
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
"Throughout the novel, Great Expectations, characters like Miss Havisham, Orlick and Magwitch are created by Charles Dickens to portray the concept of revenge. By emphasizing the dreadful endings for all revenge seekers, Dickens invites the readers to question the effectiveness of seeking revenge. Through his use of the symbolism of “darkness” and the parallels created between each revenge, Dickens warns the readers that being consumed by anger and dismay will not only lead to personal destruction but also bring devastation to the person who is targeted, attacked or used."
Beloved by Toni Morrison
"Throughout the novel Beloved, one common failure is shared by all characters -- the inability to achieve mental freedom even though they are physically emancipated. Toni Morrison examines this aftermath of a lifetime of slavery by shedding light on the painful past of the characters as former slaves and revealing the inhumane destructions that have been brought into their lives. Morrison delivers the strong message of the hidden psychological pain inside these escaped slaves by manipulating the plot structure and maximizing the portion of storytelling from various point of views."
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
"Marriages fill the storyline in Pride and Prejudice. Throughout the novel, Jane Austen advocates that the pivotal foundation and purpose of a marriage should be true love; however, she seems to undercut this idea by questioning the practicality of a marriage not being dangerously affected by other factors, such as wealth and social status of the characters."
