Org. Setting and Reporting
The post is located in the Department of Management, Office of Human Resource Management, Strategic Planning and Staffing Division, Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting Service. The core functions of the Planning, Monitoring and Reporting Service are: to support the management of the Secretariat's human resources through strategic workforce planning, human resources scorecards and reporting on human resources management information for more than 40,000 civilian staff and 80 entities including UN departments/offices, peacekeeping and special political missions.
The internship is for at least two months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Office of Human Resources Management.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of team leaders, the following are examples of the incumbent's duties:
1.Perform statistical analysis of human resources data for reporting to senior management, departments, offices, missions, and legislative bodies;
2. Identify and analysis demographical trends including age, gender, occupation;
3. Identify human resources data quality issues and solutions to overcome;
4.Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Applicants must (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. Applicants pursuing advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, public administration, business management, information technology, or related fields are desirable. Exposure to demographics, large data sets\databases, trend analysis and business intelligence is desirable. Be proficient in Microsoft Office and statistical software packages. Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
