Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme(UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets theglobal environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of theenvironmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nationssystem and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEnvironment's Ecosystems Division works with international and nationalpartners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for theimplementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmentalmanagement capacity of developing countries and countries with economies intransition. This position is located in the Ecosystems Division at the Bangkokduty station. Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Terrestrial EcosystemUnit, with additional reporting to the Regional Director, Regional Office forAsia and Pacific (ROAP). the incumbent will be responsible for the followingfunctions:
Responsibilities
• Performs consulting assignments, incollaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, throughother interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan theclient will use to manage the change. • Researches,analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources. • Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft backgroundpapers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.• Provides substantive backstopping to consultative andother meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics,identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc. • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts trainingworkshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities. • Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions,including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officialsand other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc. • Coordinates activities related to budget funding (programme/projectpreparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) andprepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget,etc.). • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate, or equivalent) inforestry, political science, economics or a related fields is required. Afirst-level degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in thespecified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may beaccepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressivelyresponsible and interdisciplinary experience in the design and management ofcomplex multi-country programmes. Experience in policy making in forestconservation, their multiple benefits and sustainable use is required.Familiarity with international organizations active in the field of forestconservation and management is an advantage. Proven capacity to activelyinteract with government officials, NGOs and research institutions is arequirement. Familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the workinglanguages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised,fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of anotherofficial United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates mayinclude an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-basedinterview.
