They say education can take you places and here at SAS we live that expression literally and figurately. Middle School Music teacher Andrew Melton recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia, where he visited the holy city of Lalibela, while there he was inspired by the beautiful bells made of stone that are used in the most important ceremonies. He knew that he had to turn that idea into a band piece.

人们常说，教育可以让人去往任何地方。在上海美国学校，我们一直在积极践行这一点。上海美国学校的音乐老师Andrew Melton最近前往埃塞俄比亚，参观了圣城拉利贝拉。在那里，有许多石头做成的美丽石钟，这些石钟被用于最重要的仪式。受到这些石钟的启发，他知道自己应当谱一首乐队乐曲了。

Fast forward to September 2019 at the 3rdAnnual Shanghai Regional Middle SchoolHonor Band Festival where over 80 students from various schools across Shanghai and China came together for an all-day immersive band experience.

时间很快来到2019年9月，在第三届上海地区中学荣誉乐队节上，来自上海和全国多所学校的八十多位学生齐聚一堂，进行了一整天的乐队音乐体验。

Students learn multiple new pieces of music and rehearse for over sevenhours to perform later that evening. Mr. Melton’s piece “The Stone Bells of Lalibela” was among those compositions, proving that education can take you places you may have not gone yet.

学生们学习了好几首新乐曲，排练了七个多小时，以进行当晚的表演。Melton先生谱写的乐曲《The Stone Bells of Lalibela》就是当晚表演的曲目之一，体现了教育可以让人去往自己未曾去过的地方的立意。
