申请心得——英国曼彻斯特大学(The University of Manchester)
特别感谢重庆工商大学2015级工程管理优秀毕业生刘娇同学提供英国留学资讯。在我印象中,她是一个特别有想法的女生,从大一开始就已经有了出国留学的规划,并且为这个目标不断努力直到实现。通过平时上课,我发现她也特别喜欢和老师交流,沟通起来很顺畅,而且悟性极高。我在指导她毕业论文时发现,她的理解能力和写作能力也非常好,最终毕业论文获得了优秀等级。
让我们跟着这位学姐一起,了解一下大学应该如何规划好留学梦以及英国曼彻斯特大学的留学信息吧!
2015年9月,作为一名大学新生,我满怀好奇进入重庆工商大学。刚上大学的我跟许多同学一样对未来充满了迷茫和未知。但是大一上期的一门叫大学生职业规划的课程给我带来了改变。在这门课程上,我第一次试着根据我认为自己喜欢的方向为自己做了一次详细的职业规划,虽然后来的发展方向跟当时规划的完全不一样,可这却让我意识到我不能再迷茫和不知所措,我应该要开始为自己的未来做一个计划了。大一下期,我参加了学校组织和第三方机构组织的历时7天的香港企业学习之行。说实话,去到香港学习的公司我并没有学到太多的专业知识,但是我却被香港这个城市深深震惊了,我看到了它多元的文化,感受到了国际化的魅力,接触到了来自不同国家和不同地方的佼佼者,我想像他们一样优秀,像他们一样每天在一个国际化的环境中工作,因此我心中便萌发了出国留学的想法。
对于普通家庭而言,出国留学并不是一件容易的事。从香港回到内地,经过自己深思熟虑,我把自己的想法告诉了爸妈。爸妈知道后表示非常支持。在这里,我想提醒各位有出国留学想法的小伙伴,出国留学不是你一个人的事,请一定要自己思考清楚后再与父母商量并获得支持之后再进一步做准备。
各位申请出国留学的同学都应该知道,申请最首要的就是大学四年的平均绩点。为了让自己的平均绩点尽量高一些,我从大二开始更加重视自己的GPA,重视自己的专业表现,参与了很多专业相关的活动。其次就是语言成绩,希望各位有报班想法的小伙伴一定要先自己多考察,其实有很多线上的网课比线下的一对一教学更好,当然这也看个人的学习体验。就我个人而言,备考雅思或者托福,最好选择一段连续的时间,让自己更加专心的学习,这样考过的机会也更大一些。再者,就是其他加分能力,比如实习经历,获奖经历,学术经历(如课题研究,创业活动等),志愿者经历等能够体现出自己的专业实践能力。这些经历越多越好,经历的越丰富才更能体现出自身的能力,才能让自己更有竞争力,从而才能让学校更多的关注你。
做好前面的一系列准备之后,在大四上期(2018年11月份中旬)申请了香港和英国的诸多高校,2019年1月18号收到曼大offer,经过比较和选择,最终选择了曼大。建议大家在申请的时候,多给自己一些选择,尽量多申请一些学校,不要孤注一掷。
刚来到曼城,感觉这个城市并没有我想象得那样好。慢慢地,等我开始融入到这个城市和曼大的生活中后,我发现这里的人其实挺和善和友好的。但是在学习方面就让我有很大的不适应了。因为习惯了国内大学的填鸭式教学,有时就习惯性等老师布置每天的作业,而英国的教学是老师在课前就会在官网上挂出这门课程需要阅读的reading list,学习全靠自觉和主动学习,如果偷懒不读的话,在课堂上就只会无言以对老师的提问,这样不仅会造成在课上的小组讨论中无话可说还会影响到自己的平时成绩。所以,想要出国留学的同学们还是要有思想准备,从大学开始就转变原来高中的学习方法和态度,毕竟你要拿的是研究生学位。
走过了申请的路,我也明白了这其中的酸甜苦辣,或许有时会被旁人不一样的观点动摇自己申请和选择的决心,但是希望各位申请的小伙伴都能坚持初心,既然选择了,就做好准备,有一天你想要的那封offer会惊喜的出现在你的邮箱里的!

经查阅资料,曼彻斯特大学(The University of Manchester),简称“曼大”,始建于1824年,是位于英国曼彻斯特的一所世界著名的顶尖综合研究型大学,是英国老牌的顶尖名校之一,英国著名的六所“红砖大学”之一(Red Brick University),英国“常春藤联盟”罗素大学集团(The Russell Group)创始成员之一。曼大共设有3个大学院(Faculty),分别是Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Medicine and Health(生物、医学和健康学院)、Faculty of Science and Engineering(科学和工程学院)和Faculty of Humanities(人文学院),每个学院下有设有很多小学院(School)。在所有学科中,商科、物理、化学、工程、材料、电子、计算机、生物、医学、制药、经济、数学、法律、戏剧、音乐等学科都是曼彻斯特大学长期以来的强势学科。曼彻斯特大学现任及过往教职员和学生中共有25位诺贝尔奖得主。2020年QS世界大学排名中,位居英国第6名、世界第27名。
2.地理位置
曼彻斯特大学坐落在世界上第一座工业化城市——英国曼彻斯特市。曼彻斯特紧邻谢菲尔德、利物浦、利兹、布莱克浦,离英国两大国家公园峰区和湖区也非常近。曼彻斯特的交通十分发达,是英国的交通枢纽之一,从曼城每天有数趟火车直达伦敦,全程仅需2个小时,去苏格兰首府爱丁堡也只要3个半小时。曼彻斯特大学附近就有可以直达曼彻斯特机场的公交和火车,火车仅二十分钟就可以到达机场,而公交也只需要不到一小时。

1. Minimum 2:1 Honours degree (or international equivalent).
2. A minimum overall average grade of 80% or a minimum GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) will be considered for admission

5. TOEFL internet-based test score of 90 or more overall, with a minimum writing score of 22 and no other subsection below 20

7. Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) overall score of 176 or above, with 176 in writing and no sub-section below 169.
We will consider applicants who do not meet these scores but you may be required to attend a pre-sessional English language course at the University of Manchester, or to demonstrate an improvement in your language scores prior to the start of your course.
8. English language test validity
Some English Language test results are only valid for two years. Your English Language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.
9. Relevant work experience
Admission of candidates who do not meet our academic entry qualification criteria may be approved if satisfactory evidence of postgraduate study, research or professional experience can be provided.
10. Professional entry qualification
Due to the vocational nature of this course, appropriate professional experience may additionally be taken into account as part of the admissions process.

In addition, the Manchester Alumni Scholarship Scheme offers a £3,000 reduction in tuition fees to University of Manchester alumni who achieved a first-class Bachelors degree and are progressing to a postgraduate taught masters course.
