In this month,YK Pao School has held a series of exciting activities.Let us take a close look at what's happening on each of the three campuses of Pao School.
Wuding Campus
On November 16 and 17, Years 4 and 5 students from Pao School showed strong performance at the Shanghai International School Math Challenge, held at the British School. A total of 8 Pao students from 2 teams participated in the competition, which included a total of 15 teams and 60 contestants. Highlights for the Pao teams included Y4's Zhu JiayueandY5's Zheng Kaiwen winning the individual versatility challenge awards for their respective ages, while both the Y4 and Y5 teams won the all-around team challenge in their respective age groups. In total, Pao School's two teams earned 17 awards, one of the best showings of any school participating in the competition.
This competition challenges students comprehensively: It not only tests their math ability, but also their hands-on, communication and teamwork skills, as well as knowledge of science. We are proud of the outstanding results of Pao students and look forward to more students participating in math challenges in the future!
On November 25th, Pao students and teachers participated in the “Flying Dreams” activity focused on clean energy and environmental protection. Officially known as the 2018 Changning International Youth Science and Technology Exploration Activity, the event was hosted by the Changning District Education Bureau and Changning District Science and Technology Commission. The activity tested students' scientific knowledge, teamwork skills and ability to think on their feet.
Members of the Pao School team showed great creativity and imagination in their model designs. They also demonstrated stellar team spirit throughout the competition, earningthem teamwork award from the judge panel. I hope our team members continue to deepen their knowledge of science and improve their related hands-on skills in fun activities like this one.
The Pao Girls Volleyball Team finished 1st and 3rd in U11 Girls Volleyball at the Songjiang Campus, an impressive achievement given that our competitors included many older and more experienced players.
In the hard-fought Boys Basketball Competition at Shanghai High School, our players showed great resilience against fierce competition. Their outstanding teamwork skills earned them the Sportsmanship award. To be sure, they will train hard in the future to improve their results on the court.
27 of our dancers participated in the dance competition at Kang Chiao International School, with the PaoWow Crew finishing 1st in the U8 age category and the PaoCut Crew earning second place in U11. To everyone who took part: Well done! You performed admirably!
The Primary Swimming Team performed superbly at Western International School of Shanghai on Dec 8th in their second SSSA meet of the year, showcasing a strong sense of responsibility and team spirit.
Hongqiao Campus
In November, computer teachers in Hongqiao Campus organized students to participate in "an Hour of Code". The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Over 100 million students worldwide have tried an Hour of Code. The demand for relevant 21st-century computer science education crosses all borders and knows no boundaries.
This week we had our "World Tour Day" and what a fabulous day it turned out to be! In the morning we had an inspiring and engaging assembly with speeches about internationalism and Pao School scholarships and amazing student performances that truly encapsulated the spirit of being part of one world.
We then had an incredible interactive showcase of all of the different countries. Students were in their element proudly giving information, leading activities and interacting with parents and staff. These events are very special and many students will remember this day for years to come. Thanks to all of the parents who attended and contributed to making this such an enjoyable day!
The Swimming Team performed superbly at Western International School of Shanghai on Dec 8th in their second SSSA meet of the year. Congratulations to the swimmers who won the medals for SSSA -WISS swim meet last Saturday.
Songjiang Campus
On November 19th, actors from Europe's White Horse Theatre gave a splendid performance of "Neighbors with Long Teeth" for Years 8-11 students at Pao School's Songjiang Campus. After the performance, the artists discussed different aspects of theatrical performance with students and answered their questions. Pao School's drama electives regularly include visits of guests from the theatre world, who share their rich acting experience firsthand with our students.
In mid and late November, Pao School awarded scholarship.At morning assembly, Mark Bishop, High School Principal and Head of Songjiang Campus presented scholarship awards to students and congratulated them. The school's scholarship program aims to develop a talented and culturally diverse student body. The program is intended to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements both in the classroom and the wider Pao community. At the same time, the program provides financial assistance to meritorious students, helping Pao School attract a wide variety of students from different backgrounds and making Pao education accessible to a wider audience.
On November 22-23, the Songjiang Campus held its firstparent-teacher-student conferenceof the semester. Unlike most high schools, Pao Schoolincludesstudents in its parents' meetings. Each family meets with teachers of different subjects at the meetings. This meeting was held in the gymnasium, dance room and education research center. Students, teachers and parents discussed a wide variety of issues candidly. Pao School's parent-teacher-student conference not only gives families more personalized attention from teachers, but also provides teachers with more targeted feedback.
At the end of the meeting on November 23, heads of each subjects collected feedback from teachers, and later communicated with the school leaders, providing them with suggestions how to optimize teaching and ensure high-quality personalized instruction.
On November 10, seven players from YK Pao School participated in the table tennis tournament at SUIS Gubei: Max Huang, Jerry Tang, Eva Lu Johnson Wang, Chris Chen, George Zhou and Douglas Jiang. They all performed well at the tournament, with Douglas Jiang winning the U19 table tennis championship.
Miss Shaina hosted the U15 and U19 floorball tournament at Pao School as our floorball teams each won second place in their respective division. We are proud to see them steadily improving.
Mr Simone hosted the U19 girls' football tournament at Pao School. Our U15 girls represented Pao School at the tournament. They did not make the finals, as they faced tough competition from physically stronger players. At the same time, they performed admirably overall, showcasing strong team spirit and gaining valuable experience.
Pao School's U15 and U19 badminton players participated in the weekend badminton tournament, ultimately making it to the quarter finals. It was a great experience for our team to be able to compete against some of the professional athletes on the Shanghai and Zhejiang teams.
Meanwhile, ourU19 girls and boys volleyball teamparticipated in the finals at SUIS Wanyuan, playing the whole day until 5:00pm. Our girls team once again won the championship, while our boys team took 2nd place in the league games and 3rd placein the finals.Zoe Liu, Marina Li, Kevin Huang and John Chiba were named as all-star players.
